Best Classes for Kender
5. Warlock
Primary Ability Score – Charisma
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – Light
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple
Why the Warlock?
Kender Warlocks should put +2 in Charisma and +1 in Dexterity.
Warlocks often have their Bonus Action free, as only a few require it for casting. This means Taunt becomes readily available.
You shouldn’t be using Taunt on the front line, but if you are a ways away from enemies, you can use it to ease the pressure on your front line.
Recommended Warlock Otherworldly Patrons
- Fiend
- Genie
4. Sorcerer
Primary Ability Score – Charisma
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – None
Weapons Proficiencies – Daggers, Quarterstaffs, Light Crossbows, Darts, Slings
Why the Sorcerer?
Kender Sorcerers should put +2 in Charisma and +1 in Dexterity.
Like the Warlock, Sorcerers usually have their Bonus Action free, as there are spells that use it, but they are few and far between.
Taunt should then be used, but only at a safe distance. Otherwise, you’ll understand why casters don’t do well on the front line.
Recommended Sorcerer Origins
- Aberrant Mind
- Divine Soul
- Shadow Magic
3. Druid
Primary Ability Score – Wisdom
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields (Druids won’t use shields or wear armor made from metal)
Weapons Proficiencies – Spears, Slings, Sickles, Scimitars, Quarterstaffs, Maces, Javelins, Darts, Daggers, Clubs
Why the Druid?
Kender Druids should put +2 in Wisdom and +1 in Dexterity.
Even though there are ways for Druids to use their Bonus Action, the spells are hardly used, and Wild Shape should only be used when Taunt isn’t applicable.
It’s a shame Taunt doesn’t work while Wild Shaped, but that isn’t too bad since you can supplement it with powerful spellcasting-focused Druid Circles.
Recommended Druid Circles
- Land
- Spores
2. Wizard
Primary Ability Score – Intelligence
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Intelligence
Armor Proficiencies – None
Weapons Proficiencies – Light crossbows, Quarterstaffs, Slings, Darts, Daggers
Why the Wizard?
Kender Wizards should put +2 in Intelligence and +1 in Dexterity.
Wizards do have spells that use their Bonus Action, but most of them aren’t that prevalent in everyday play, so you’ll have it free for Taunt.
Drawing attention isn’t as bad for you, especially as a Wizard who heavily focuses on defense or offense.
In fact, you could choose to do this just to lure a bunch of enemies right into your spells and have your front line collapse on them straight after.
Recommended Wizard Arcane Traditions
- School of Abjuration (Durability)
- School of Evocation (Damage)
1. Paladin
Primary Ability Scores – Charisma and Strength
Secondary Ability Score – Constitution
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Heavy, Shields
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial
Why the Paladin?
Kender Paladins should put +2 in Charisma and +1 in Constitution.
Paladins are insanely resourceful and very versatile in regard to what they can help themselves and their party with.
That means keeping their Bonus Action available for Taunt allows them to draw attention to themselves, tank damage, or deal damage.
Note: Fearless will become useless at level 10, so just keep that in mind.
Recommended Paladin Sacred Oaths
- Conquest (Damage and durability)
- Crown (Durability)
- Vengeance (Damage)
