Best Classes for Loxodons
5. Wizard
Primary Ability Score – Intelligence
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Intelligence
Armor Proficiencies – None
Weapons Proficiencies – Light crossbows, Quarterstaffs, Slings, Darts, Daggers
Why the Wizard?
Loxodon Wizards should increase Intelligence by +2 and Constitution by +1.
Usually, Wizards will need to go Dexterity to get armor and increase their AC, but as a Loxodon, that’s not needed.
Instead, Natural Armor gives them enough AC to ignore Dexterity and focus on Intelligence and Constitution, the only two ability scores a Wizard needs.
Recommended Wizard Arcane Traditions
- Chronurgy Magic
- School of Divination
- School of Evocation
4. Bard
Primary Ability Score – Charisma
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – Light
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Shortswords, Rapiers, Longswords, Hand Crossbow
Why the Bard?
Loxodon Bards should increase Charisma by +2 and Constitution by +1.
Much like Wizards, Bards are usually forced to go Dexterity for the additional AC, but Natural Armor allows them to focus solely on Constitution and Charisma.
Not to mention, Loxodon Serenity allows them to avoid mental effects and stay in the fight for longer.
Recommended Bard Colleges
- Eloquence
- Lore
3. Fighter
Primary Ability Score – Strength (STR-based), Dexterity (DEX-based)
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution
Spellcasting Ability – Intelligence (For Eldritch Knight)
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Heavy, Shields
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial
Why the Fighter?
Loxodon Fighters should increase Strength by +2 and Constitution by +1.
Fighters usually struggle with mental saves, but with Loxodon Serenity, that weakness falls away and allows you to stay in fights for longer.
You can also use your Trunk to grapple enemies if you are going with Strength.
This is especially good if you don’t have free hands but want to stop an enemy from reaching an ally.
Note: Natural Armor isn’t good on the Fighter since they can wear armor that raises their AC far above what Natural Armor gives you.
Recommended Fighter Martial Archetypes
- Battle Master
- Echo Knight
- Samurai
2. Ranger
Primary Ability Score – Dexterity
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Wisdom
Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial
Why the Ranger?
Loxodon Rangers should increase Strength by +2 and Constitution by +1.
You might think Loxodon Rangers won’t benefit from Natural Armor, but because it allows them to drop Dexterity and fully commit to Strength, it ups their usefulness by a ton.
However, you still need to increase your Constitution, so don’t focus entirely on Strength and ignore your Constitution.
Recommended Ranger Archetypes
- Gloom Stalker
- Swarmkeeper
1. Druid
Primary Ability Score – Wisdom
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields (Druids won’t use shields or wear armor made from metal)
Weapons Proficiencies – Spears, Slings, Sickles, Scimitars, Quarterstaffs, Maces, Javelins, Darts, Daggers, Clubs
Why the Druid?
Loxodon Druids should increase Wisdom by +2 and Constitution by +1 (Swap around for more durability).
Druids will love Natural Armor, as it allows them to have high AC without needing armor.
This also means you can solely focus on Constitution and Wisdom without raising Dexterity.
