Best Classes for Locathah

5. Barbarian

Primary Ability Score – Strength

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity to a lesser extent

Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial

Why the Barbarian?

Locathah Barbarians should increase Strength by +2 and Constitution by +1.

Barbarians are not protected against mental saves, meaning they can easily be taken out of the fight by a single spellcaster who targets them with these abilities.

Leviathan Will deals with that issue, making them much more durable than before.

Barbarians are also quite useless out of combat, but with Observant and Athletics, Perception allows you to help your party more than you could before.

Recommended Barbarian Primal Paths

  • Ancestral Guardian
  • Totem Warrior

4. Monk

Primary Ability Score – Dexterity

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Wisdom

Armor Proficiencies – None

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Shortswords

Why the Monk?

Locathah Monks should increase Dexterity by +2 and Wisdom by +1.

Rogues usually outshine Monks in the skills department, but with Observant and Athletic, a Monk gets closer to reaching a Rogue’s level.

It’s also worth mentioning that these skills make it much easier for a Monk to act as his party’s Scout.

Leviathan Will helps against mental saves, which Monks struggle with, especially in the early game. It will even help in the late game since Monks are given more proficiencies.

Recommended Monastic Traditions

  • Way of Mercy
  • Way of the Long Death

3. Ranger

Primary Ability Score – Dexterity

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Wisdom

Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom

Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial

Why the Ranger?

Locathah Rangers should increase Dexterity by +2 and Wisdom by +1.

Like the Monk, Rangers compete with Rogues in skills, so Observant and Athletics help close that gap ever so slightly.

Leviathan Will adds greater durability to a Ranger, even though they aren’t too weak against mental saves.

Unfortunately, Natural Armor is redundant, as you’ll get more AC using Medium armor.

Recommended Ranger Archetypes

  • Fey Wanderer
  • Gloom Stalker

2. Rogue

Primary Ability Score – Dexterity

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Intelligence (For Arcane Tricksters)

Armor Proficiencies – Light

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Shortswords, Rapiers, Longswords, Hand Crossbows

Why the Rogue?

Locathah Rogues should increase Dexterity by +2 and Constitution by +1.

Rogues already dominate with the number of skills they have access to, so Observant and Athletics increase their dominance even further.

Leviathan Will comes in clutch, as your high Dexterity won’t protect you from mental saves, allowing you to effortlessly weave in between enemies without the fear of being taken out by your weak mental saves.

Recommended Rogue Archetypes

  • Assassin
  • Soulknife
  • Swashbuckler

1. Fighter

Primary Ability Score – Strength (STR-based), Dexterity (DEX-based)

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution

Spellcasting Ability – Intelligence (For Eldritch Knight)

Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Heavy, Shields

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial

Why the Fighter?

Locathah Fighters should increase Strength or Dexterity by +2 and Constitution by +1.

Like Barbarians, Fighters struggle against mental abilities, so Leviathan Will helps defend against them.

After receiving the two skills from Observant and Athletic, you will also be more useful outside of combat, allowing you to use Perception to help your team.

Note: Fighters are so strong compared to Barbarians because of their number of attacks that you would only go a Barbarian if you enjoy playing a Barbarian.

Recommended Fighter Martial Archetypes

  • Battle Master
  • Echo Knight
  • Rune Knight
  • Samurai
