Best Classes for Water Genasi
5. Cleric
Primary Ability Score – Wisdom
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution
Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple
Why the Cleric?
Water Genasi Clerics should put +2 Wisdom and +1 Constitution.
Even though most of the spells on Call to the Wave aren’t new (except Acid Splash) to the Cleric, they can still use them without learning them.
Acid Resistance is quite good, as Acid damage is more common than most magical damage types, and Darkvision is good to have on any class.
Recommended Cleric Divine Domains
- Arcana
- Death
4. Warlock
Primary Ability Score – Charisma
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – Light
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple
Why the Warlock?
Water Genasi Warlocks should put +2 in Charisma and +1 in Constitution.
Warlocks don’t naturally unlock the spells from Call to the Wave, so having them unlocks a new damage spell and two okay utility spells.
Acid Resistance serves the same purpose it did for the Cleric, and Darkvision is a welcome addition.
The only issue is that Warlocks will have to find ways to make the innate spellcasting useful, or else they won’t get much from choosing a Water Genasi.
Recommended Warlock Otherworldly Patrons
- Fathomless
- Genie
- Great Old One
3. Sorcerer
Primary Ability Score – Charisma
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – None
Weapons Proficiencies – Daggers, Quarterstaffs, Light Crossbows, Darts, Slings
Why the Sorcerer?
Water Genasi Sorcerers should put +2 in Charisma and +1 in Constitution.
Even though Sorcerers already have all the Water Genasi’s spells, being able to cast them without having to learn them is a massive plus.
Once again, Acid Resistance and Darkvision are good extras to your kit, but the spellcasting will be most helpful.
Note: Water Genasi Sorcerers are most useful in an Aquatic Campaign.
Recommended Sorcerer Origins
- Aberrant Mind
- Divine Soul
- Wild Magic
2. Paladin
Primary Ability Scores – Charisma and Strength
Secondary Ability Score – Constitution
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Heavy, Shields
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial
Why the Paladin?
Water Genasi Paladins should put +2 Charisma or Strength and +1 in Constitution.
The Paladin is Water Genasi’s best martial class, which is no surprise, as Paladins are superior in magic and melee.
Call to the Wave gives you a few extra utility spells, with Acid Splash being a good ranged attack to consider.
Acid Resistance and Darkvision are great additions, but Acid damage won’t see as much use as Darkvision.
Recommended Paladin Sacred Oaths
- Redemption
- Ancients
1. Bard
Primary Ability Score – Charisma
Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity
Spellcasting Ability – Charisma
Armor Proficiencies – Light
Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Shortswords, Rapiers, Longswords, Hand Crossbow
Why the Bard?
Water Genasi Bards should put +2 in Charisma and +1 in Constitution.
Bards don’t have access to any of the spells on Call of the Wave, so as a Water Genasi, you’ll unlock a few useful spells.
Of all the classes mentioned, a Water Genasi Bard would perform the best in an Aquatic-based campaign and is the Water Genasi’s best class.
Recommended Bard Colleges
- Eloquence
- Lore
