The 15 Best Magic Items For Druids in D&D 5e [Ranked]

The 15 Best Magic Items For Druids in D&D 5e [Ranked]

Druids can focus on a lot of aspects because of their spellcasting, like utility, support, or damage.

Druid items will build on their spellcasting, providing them with extra spells, giving them durability to get more spells onto the battlefield, or giving them buffs while in Wild Shape.

Best Magic Items for the Druid in 5e

15. Staff of Adornment/Birdcalls/Flowers

Rarity – Common

Item Type – Staff

Description

Staff of Adornment – An item of no more than 1 pound can be placed on the tip of the staff while it’s being held, floating until removed, or the staff is no longer in your possession.

The staff can have three items float like this at a time, and while holding the staff, you can make one object slowly spin or turn in place.

Staff of Birdcalls – It has 10 charges, and holding it lets you use an action to expend 1 charge, causing it to create one of the following sounds to a range of 60 feet: eagle’s shriek, owl’s hoot, seagull’s cry, turkey’s gobble, loon’s call, goose’s honk, chicken’s cluck, duck’s quack, raven’s caw, or finch’s chirp.

The staff will regain 1d6 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn. Expending the last charge lets you roll a d20, but on a 1, the staff explodes in a harmless cloud of bird feathers and is lost forever.

Staff of Flowers – The staff has 10 charges, and holding it lets you use an action and expend 1 charge from the staff, causing a flower to sprout from a patch of soil or earth within 5 feet of your location.

Unless you choose a specific type of flower, staff will create a mild-scented daisy. The spawned flower is harmless and nonmagical, and it grows or withers just like a normal flower.

The staff will regain 1d6 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn. Expending the last charge forces you to roll a d20, but on a 1, the staff turns into flower petals and is then lost forever.

Explanation

These staffs each have their own quirky little magic ability, but the main reason you’ll want one of these staffs is because each of them can function as a quarterstaff.

Druids who want to use Shillelagh might find some value by taking the Staff of Adornment, the Staff of Birdcalls, or the Staff of Flowers.

14. Stone of Good Luck (Luckstone)

Rarity – Uncommon (requiring attunement)

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

While on your person, you have a +1 bonus to ability checks and saving throws.

Explanation

Almost any character can use the Stone of Good Luck to their benefit.

Characters who are mostly reliant on ability checks and skills will find Stone of Good Luck as a perfect default item.

13. Moon Sickle (Also Consider the Staff of the Woodlands)

Rarity – Uncommon (+1), Rare (+2), Very Rare (+3) (requiring attunement by a Druid or Ranger)

Item Type – Weapon (sickle)

Description

Holding this weapon lets you gain a bonus to both attack and damage rolls made with it, and you also gain a bonus to spell attack rolls and save DCs of Druid and Ranger spells.

The bonus is determined by the rarity of the weapon, and the sickle can also be used as a spellcasting focus for Druid or Ranger spells.

Casting a spell that restores HP lets you roll a d4, adding the number rolled to the amount of HP restored if you’re holding the sickle.

Explanation

The fact that Moon Sickle gives you +1 to attack rolls, damage rolls, save DCs, and spell attacks makes this a pretty decent Druid weapon.

It also works as a spellcasting focus, so you don’t have to switch it out when casting a spell, and it even works well in combination with HP-restoring spells.

12. Amulet of Health

Rarity – Rare (requiring attunement)

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Your Constitution score rises to 19 while wearing this amulet. It will have no effect on you if your Constitution is at 19 or higher before wearing it.

Explanation

Amulet of Health is perfect if you either want to set your Constitution to 19 and keep it there or if you want to have a high Constitution so that you can focus on increasing other Ability Scores.

You’re also able to take more Feats since you won’t have to focus on increasing your Constitution so that you don’t die instantly at higher levels.

11. Bag of Tricks

Rarity – Uncommon

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Though it appears empty, reaching into the bag reveals the presence of a small yet fuzzy object. The bag also weighs only 1/2 pound.

You can then use an action to pull the small, fuzzy object from the bag and then throw it up to 20 feet. Landing makes it transform into a creature by rolling a d8 and looking at the table that shows the bag’s color. A creature will vanish at the next dawn or when reduced to 0 HP.

The creature will be friendly to you and companions, and it acts on its own turn. Using a bonus action lets you command the creature’s movement and lets it know which actions to take on its next turn or give it general orders (like, “attack those enemies”).

If it isn’t given orders, the creature will act appropriately to its nature.

After three fuzzy objects have been taken from the bag, it cannot be used until the next break of dawn.

Explanation

The Bag of Tricks is a good way to get a friendly beast that follows your commands.

There are a lot of simple things you can use your beast for, like detecting enemies, scouting, or even being a meatshield for your allies.

10. Ring of Spell Storing

Rarity – Rare (requiring attunement)

Item Type – Ring

Description

Spells cast into the ring are stored (up to 5 levels worth of spells are able to be stored in the ring at one time), holding them until the attuned wearer decides to use them.

When the ring is found, it can contain 1d6 -1 levels of stored spells (chosen by the DM).

Any creature is able to cast a spell of 1st to 5th level into the ring by simply touching it as the spell is cast. Doing this makes the spell have no effect other than being stored in the ring.

However, if the ring cannot hold the spell, it will be expended without effect. The level of the spell slot used to cast the spell will determine how much space it takes up.

Wearing the ring lets you cast any spell stored within it. The spell will use the slot level, spell attack bonus, spell save DC, and spellcasting ability of the original caster but is otherwise treated as a normal cast spell.

A spell cast from the ring is no longer stored within it, freeing up space in the ring.

Explanation

The Ring of Spell Storing has a lot of uses, but the best way to use it would be to pump it with defensive spells to increase your durability.

Spells like Absorb Elements or Shield work extremely well when put into a Ring of Spell Storing.

9. Manual of Bodily Health

Rarity – Very Rare

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Spend 48 hours over a period of 6 days or less studying this book, increasing your Constitution score by 2, as well as your maximum for it.

After this, the manual will lose its magic, only regaining it in a century.

Explanation

Raising your Constitution score, as well as its maximum, makes it easier for you to focus on other Ability Scores, gain HP, or just raise your Constitution score and Constitution maximum.

So, if you don’t have an item that raises your Constitution and you don’t want to use it anyway, then Manual of Bodily Health is perfect for you.

8. Ring of Three Wishes

Rarity – Legendary

Item Type – Ring

Description

Whilst wearing the ring, you may use an action to expend 1 of its 3 actions to cast the Wish spell from the ring.

The ring will become nonmagical when the last charge has been used.

Explanation

The Ring of Three Wishes is best used to cast Wish to do one of the things that risks permanently removing the ability to cast Wish.

The best course of action would be to then get rid of the ring by giving it to another player (ideally, one that won’t ever be able to cast Wish).

The Ring of Three Wishes can be pretty difficult to rank, as it depends entirely on what you do with the ring and if you’ll lose the ability to cast it again.

7. Staff of Fire

Rarity – Very Rare (requiring attunement by Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard)

Item Type – Staff

Description

While holding the staff, you have Fire resistance.

The staff has 10 charges – holding it lets you use an action to expend 1 charge to cast one of the following spells and use your spell save DC: Wall of Fire (4 charges), Fireball (3 charges), or Burning Hands (1 charge).

The staff will regain 1d6 + 4 expended charges each day, and if you expend the last charge, you must roll a d20. If you roll a 1, the staff turns black, crumbles into cinders, and is then destroyed.

Explanation

Druids don’t have access to Fireball or Burning Hands, which are both very good AoE damage-dealing spells.

Even though Druids don’t really cast too many damage spells, having some powerful damage options brought to you by Staff of Fire can prove useful in certain situations.

6. Cloak of Invisibility

Rarity – Legendary (requiring attunement)

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Wearing the cloak lets you pull down its hood over your head and become invisible. While invisible, anything you’re wearing or carrying is also invisible.

When you stop wearing the hood, you become visible, and pulling the hood up or down requires an action.

The cloak’s maximum duration is 2 hours, so deduct the time you’re invisible using increments of 1 minute.

After being used for 2 hours, the cloak stops functioning. If a period of 12 uninterrupted hours passes without the cloak being used, 1 hour of duration is regained.

Explanation

Having invisibility, especially invisibility that doesn’t get canceled after you cast a spell or attack (which Cloak of Invisibility has), is too powerful not to take.

However, it’s not only for attacks, as it can work well if you just want to sneak around or even gather information without being seen.

Note: Combining Cloak of Invisibility with an ability that muffles your footsteps or gives you advantage on Stealth checks makes it even better.

5. Sentinel Shield

Rarity – Uncommon

Item Type – Armor (shield)

Description

If you are holding a shield, you gain advantage on initiative rolls as well as Wisdom (Perception) checks.

The shield is also emblazoned with the symbol of an eye.

Explanation

Perception is widely known to be the most rolled skill in D&D, and Druids are often one of the classes with the best Perception.

Therefore, since Druids usually also have shields, Sentinel Shield fits perfectly with Druids, allowing them to gain advantage in Perception checks and initiative rolls.

4. Belt of Giant Strength (Hill OR Frost, Stone, Fire OR Cloud, Storm)

Rarity – Rare, Very Rare, or Legendary (all requiring attunement)

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Wearing the belt changes your Strength score with that granted by the belt. Having Strength equal to or greater than that of the belt mitigates any effects of the belt.

Six varieties of the belt exist, corresponding with and having rarity according to the six kinds of true giants.

TypeStrengthRarity
Hill Giant21Rare
Stone/Frost Giant23Very Rare
Fire Giant25Very Rare
Cloud Giant27Legendary
Storm Giant29Legendary

Explanation

As long as the Belt of Giant Strength exists, there’s no reason to raise your Strength stat.

Strength-based characters will get the most benefit from this, but those who want to get a little creative might also enjoy the crazy Strength increase they get from it.

3. Tome of Understanding

Rarity – Very Rare

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Spend 48 hours over a period of 6 days or less studying this book, increasing your Wisdom score by 2, as well as your maximum for it.

After this, the tome will lose its magic, only regaining it in a century.

Explanation

Druids rely on Wisdom to fuel their spells, and getting a Wisdom increase after hitting a Wisdom score of 20 should be your goal with Tome of Understanding.

However, if you don’t already have 20 Wisdom, the maximum Wisdom increase is also pretty nice to have.

2. Barrier Tattoo

Rarity – Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare (requiring attunement)

Item Type – Wondrous item (tattoo)

Description

Tattoo Attunement – Attuning to this item requires you to hold the needle to your skin where you want the tattoo to appear, pressing it there throughout the entire attunement process.

When attunement is complete, the needle will turn into the ink used for the tattoo and appear on the skin. If your attunement ends, the tattoo vanishes, and the needle appears in your space.

Protection – While not wearing armor, the tattoo grants AC depending on its rarity – as shown in the table. You are able to use a shield and still gain this benefit.

RarityAC
Uncommon12 + your Dexterity modifier
Rare15 + your Dexterity modifier (maximum of +2)
Very Rare18

Explanation

Druids suffer from their low AC, and getting access to a Rare or, even better, a Very Rare can make a massive improvement to their durability.

Barrier Tattoo even works while in Wild Shape, making it infinitely more useful than most items.

1. Cloak of Displacement

Rarity – Rare (requiring attunement)

Item Type – Wondrous item

Description

Wearing this cloak projects an illusion that makes it look like you’re standing in a place close to your actual location, giving creatures disadvantage on attack rolls against you.

Taking damage will stop this function until the start of your next turn. This property is also suppressed while you are restrained, incapacitated, or unable to move.

Explanation

The Cloak of Displacement is considered to be one of the best defensive items for any character in D&D.

Giving creatures who want to attack you disadvantage is amazing, but try to take care of enemies who can damage you without having to expend an attack roll.

Final Thoughts

Druids are one of the least played classes in D&D, but if played in combination with the appropriate magic items, they can become a blast to play.

It’s unfortunate that most people won’t experience some of the truly insane things that a Druid can do with certain magic items listed above.
