Best Classes for Fairies

5. Druid

Primary Ability Score – Wisdom

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity

Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom

Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields (Druids won’t use shields or wear armor made from metal)

Weapons Proficiencies – Spears, Slings, Sickles, Scimitars, Quarterstaffs, Maces, Javelins, Darts, Daggers, Clubs

Why the Druid?

Fairy Druids can take +2 Wisdom and +1 Constitution (for durability).

Spellcasting-focused Druids will benefit significantly from the Fairy’s flight. Not only does it help with a Druid’s poor durability, but it also lets them safely hold Concentration.

Druids already have Faerie Fire, but Enlarge/Reduce can be valuable if you want to buff a Fighter or Paladin with a Strength check and damage boost.

Recommended Druid Circles

  • Circle of Stars
  • Circle of Wildfire
  • Circle of the Shepherd

4. Cleric

Primary Ability Score – Wisdom

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution

Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom

Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple

Why the Cleric?

Fairy Clerics can take +2 in Wisdom and +1 in Constitution as a flying caster.

Clerics don’t get Faerie Fire, giving them an easy counter to invisibility. Flight is quite beneficial for a spellcasting-focused Cleric, as it lets them stay out of dangerous situations.

Recommended Cleric Divine Domains

  • Arcana Domain
  • Knowledge Domain
  • Light Domain

3. Ranger

Primary Ability Score – Dexterity

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Wisdom

Spellcasting Ability – Wisdom

Armor Proficiencies – Light, Medium, Shields

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Martial

Why the Ranger?

Fairy Rangers should aim to get +2 Dexterity and +1 Wisdom (Constitution isn’t a factor since you’ll be flying).

Most Fairy Rangers will take to the skies with flight, shooting at the enemies from above while avoiding melee combat. Some might even use Faerie Fire, which makes it impossible to use Hunter’s Mark.

This will require you to focus mainly on the damage your weapon deals instead of Hunter’s Mark, though that’s not too big a loss.

Recommended Ranger Archetypes

  • Gloomstalker
  • Swarm Keeper

2. Bard

Primary Ability Score – Charisma

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Dexterity

Spellcasting Ability – Charisma

Armor Proficiencies – Light

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Shortswords, Rapiers, Longswords, Hand Crossbow

Why the Bard?

Fairy Bards only need +2 in Charisma and +1 in Constitution (melee builds don’t work well with Fairies, so Dexterity isn’t necessary).

Fairy Bards probably get the most out of flight compared to other spellcasters, especially because of their number of effective spells and range of skills.

The Fairy can work for any Bard build, but it doesn’t work as well for melee builds because of your low durability.

Recommended Bard Colleges

  • College of Eloquence
  • College of Glamour
  • College of Lore

1. Rogue

Primary Ability Score – Dexterity

Secondary Ability Scores – Constitution, Intelligence (For Arcane Tricksters)

Armor Proficiencies – Light

Weapons Proficiencies – Simple, Shortswords, Rapiers, Longswords, Hand Crossbows

Why the Rogue?

Fairy Rogues will need +2 Dexterity/Intelligence and +1 Dexterity/Intelligence/Constitution (+2 Intelligence only if you want to be an Arcane Trickster).

Flight is quite helpful for the Rogue, as it lets you stay out of reach, working well with Cunning Action.

Cunning Action lets you make better use of Concentration spells and allows you to create hit-and-run tactics with Faerie Fire and even using Booming Blade while you’re at it.

Recommended Rogue Archetypes

  • Arcane Trickster
  • Soulknife
  • Swashbuckler

Final Thoughts

Whether you prefer the magical creation of an Artificer, the stealth and agility of a Rogue, the connection to nature of a Druid, or the divine powers of a Cleric, each class offers unique opportunities for adventure and storytelling.
